HIRING AN APPRAISER FOR DISPUTE RESOLUTION IN THE FAIR MARKET VALUE OF A CAR, TRUCK OR RV

DISPUTE RESOLUTION IN THE FAIR MARKET VALUE OF A CAR, TRUCK OR RV

FORT PIERCE, Florida - Most cases involving differences of opinions over the fair market value of motor vehicles involve insurance companies. However, these situations can also arise in a bankruptcy or divorce proceeding. Disputes are not uncommon, especially in the case of restored antique cars, custom cars and luxury RVs, because everyone has a different way of looking at things. In the case of a total loss, insurers generally stick to their CCC evaluation figures. In the real world, though, fair market value of a car, truck, motorcycle or RV can be quite dissimilar. Therefore, alternate methods for assigning correct values to vehicles are required. Heavy trucks and trailers are other examples of vehicles whose values are commonly misquoted. Resolving a difference of opinion calls for a certain amount of flexibility on both sides of the table. Keeping these matters out of expensive litigation is one goal. Reaching a settlement that is equitable is another. Obtaining an evaluation report from a licensed appraisal company with experience in these situations is an important step toward a resolution that, hopefully, satisfies all parties involved.
Insurance companies are primarily concerned with containing costs, this much goes without saying. Vehicle owners, on the other hand, sometimes feel that they deserve to be compensated commensurate with the amount of money they've spend either restoring, customizing or upgrading their cars, trucks or recreational vehicles. Finding common ground isn't difficult as long as both parties concede that fair market value will be the determining factor. An appraiser's job is to look at the facts impartially and to gather data from all available sources he deems to be reliable. Using a book value can be as inappropriate as using the asking price of a comparable vehicle. Appraiser discretion is a valuable skill that can bring the picture into focus and help to resolve what may have once seemed like an impossible situation.
